On April 30th, 2016, Senator Ngo attended a flag-raising ceremony in Vancouver to commemorate the first anniversary of “Journey to Freedom Day.” The event was held in honor of the Vietnamese refugees who fled their homeland over four decades ago in search of safety, security and democracy. “Journey to Freedom Day” is also an occasion to celebrate the growing Vietnamese-Canadian community, as well as Canada’s humanitarian aid during the worst refugee crisis of the 20th century. Senator Ngo was invited to Sherbrooke by the mayor to meet with the Vietnamese-Canadian community and to attend a flag raising ceremony in honour of the first anniversary of Journey to Freedom Day.

Senator Ngo was invited to attend a historical event at the Ontario Legislature at Queen’s Park on the morning of Thursday, April 21. The event was significant because it was the first time that all members of the Provincial Parliament wore the Vietnamese freedom scarves, commemorating the first anniversary of the Journey to Freedom Day Act that was passed by the Conservative government last year.
