Journey to Freedom Day at Toronto City Hall

April 27, 2019

On Saturday, April 27, Senator Ngo was graciously invited by the Vietnamese Association, Toronto, in collaboration with the various Vietnamese Canadian groups in the GTA, to attend this year’s Flag-raising ceremony at Toronto City Hall in honour of Journey to Freedom Day.

Journey to Freedom Day commemorates the hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees who fled Vietnam after the Fall of Saigon in 1975 and made their way to Canada in search of peace and freedom – and a better life. This day therefore officially recognized the modern beginnings of the Vietnamese community in Canada and celebrated their contributions to date.

Senator Ngo was honoured to raise the historic Vietnamese Heritage and Freedom flag to pay homage to the Vietnamese community’s heritage in Canada. The Senator was also grateful to the all of the organizers, community leaders, and volunteers involved in making this year’s event possible.
