Mississauga Flag Raising Ceremony

April 26, 2015

On Sunday, April 26th, 2015, Senator Thanh Hai Ngo represented the government at the National Flag raising ceremony in Mississauga. This event also marked Mississauga’s first Journey to Freedom Day celebrating the story of Canada’s Vietnamese “boat people” and the Vietnamese heritage flag. Since 1998, the Vietnamese heritage flag was ban from City Hall, however after 17 years of dedication and perseverance among the Vietnamese Communities, the ban was lifted. Such momentous event is an opportunity for the Vietnamese people to reiterate their gratefulness to Canada and the City of Mississauga for accepting Vietnamese refugees.
